A slow year 2022 for the global smartphone market

The IDC firm, which specializes in studies on this universe, has revealed, for example, that in the third quarter of 2022 alone, orders fell by more than 18% compared to 2021. As a result, the overall market experienced a sharp slowdown in 2022, with sales declining by 11.3% compared to the previous year.

According to IDC, such an economic climate is reflected in the sale of only 1.21 billion smartphones globally in the past year. Since 2013, this sales volume represents the lowest number of smartphones sold. This finding is actually prompting observers to believe that the situation is less favorable for a recovery in this year 2023, when many estimated that sales volume should see a positive jump of 2.8%. All smartphone manufacturers are affected by this decline in sales in 2022, including Xiaomi, which is nevertheless one of the most dynamic players in the market.

Mobile World Congress 2023: presentation of the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro in international markets

From one year to the other actually, the research firm IDC indicates that the volume of sales of the brand has experienced a decline of about 26%. This situation does not hinder the ambitions of the brand, which continues its efforts to become one of the world's largest smartphone players.

Even though sales are down and the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are high-end smartphones, Xiaomi is continuing its momentum and maintaining its strategy. Its specialty is indeed to launch innovative and powerful devices at unbeatable prices. Since the company entered the international market, this has been its strategy, which has helped it gain a significant market share in record time.

The latest Xiaomi 13 Pro presented by the Chinese firm offers everything that the most demanding users expect from a high-end smartphone. For example, the device features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, one of the latest processors developed by the American company Qualcomm. Xiaomi's 13 Pro offers a 6.73-inch touchscreen to its users and has a triple-lens camera developed by the Chinese brand with German firm Leica. MIUI: one of the ingredients of Xiaomi's success

Xiaomi is appreciated not only for its smartphones, but also for the Android overlay that powers the Chinese company's devices. With Xiaomi, the operating system of your smartphone goes by the name of MIUI and offers various features that can attract users.

Thanks to MIUI, Xiaomi smartphone owners enjoy an interface that is significantly different from that offered by Android. For example, Xiaomi's display is more colorful and playful, making it a more pleasant approach to the basic Android operating system. When creating the MIUI concept, Xiaomi said it wanted to emulate the look of Apple's iOS operating system. Over the years, the overlay proposed by the Chinese firm has improved and now offers its own identity. Some of the applications and specific features of MIUI are indeed used only on compatible devices, such as the references available to buyers in Xiaomi stores in Lausanne, including:

- The battery saver: when you use your phone a lot, you may have already encountered worries about keeping the battery full. With the Ultra Battery Saver mode, you can push your battery to the limit and possibly add hours of usage time. This mode saves battery by limiting most of the app's functionality and focusing only on the essentials, like calls or texts, etc. It also activates the dark mode and disables several other features as requested by the user;

- Disconnected mode: this feature is very similar to Zen mode, which you find on OnePlus phones. You set a period of time when you want to focus on a project, whether it's work-related, school-related or even family-related. Once you start this mode, your phone is unusable for the set period. Other than the camera and dialer, you are essentially inactive with respect to your Xiaomi smartphone. If you are the kind of person who is easily distracted, this could be a very useful tool.

- The Control Center: normally, when you swipe down on your home screen, you see the classic Android notification shade. On Xiaomi phones, however, you can instead choose to see the control center. As the name suggests, it's a blatant copy of the control center you find in iOS.
